Fantasy Contest V 2.0 Beta Test (NACC/EUCC 2010)

Posted by The Masked Ameoba on May 25, 2010

Back from a long hiatus, the fantasy contest returns for a beta test run of our new system.  Check it out, and help us fix any problems for future contests.

I am going to do it or EUCC as well, thanks again for helping me test.

With Cryptozoic being a very new company, they were not ready to commit to providing prizes for Fantasy contests.  I am actually not 100% sure they ever will, but since I went ahead and tweeked the system anyway  I thought I would run it as a beta test and see how it works out just in case they want to do it.

The main changes to the contest were in how points were calculated.  I dropped off older events and have only included events from 2009  and 2010.  The current plan is to use this as a base for point values, adding in events throughout the year.  At the end of the year, the events from 2009 will be dropped off and the points will be re-adjusted.  The biggest re-adjustment will come from ratings, in this case they were taken from where they were at the end of last year.  At the end of each year they would be adjusted (assuming Crypto has some sort of ratings).

Another change is that if all the events/ratings fell off the calculation you will have a value of 10 points.  This reflects a good player who took a year or two off.  They will still be that good player, and the extra 5 points reflects that.

Finally I tweeked the finishing values some to make it more advantageous to pick those in the top 8, and have the other places as more of a bonus and tiebreaker use.

Just as before, you will be choosing a team of five players to compete for you at the DMF main event. This will work nearly the same as it always has.

Anyway, on with the contest.

Choosing your Team

Similar to a mini’s game, you have 130 points to spend on your team.

* Any player can be chosen for your team, from the most popular to the unknown scrub. You just have to keep to the point total.

* You can have less than 5 players if you run out of points, but you can’t have more. Any points not spent are wasted.

* Players not listed cost 5 points

Players have been given points based on performance in wowtcg.com reported events. I know that there are events and other tournaments that are important and show good players that aren’t reported by UDE, but they are just going to be missed. Players got points for top8′ing major events (Nats, DMF’s, and World Championships). This score is generally updated after the major events. Players also received points for finishing in the top 50 of rating in both constructed and limited play. After all the points were calculated I set a cutoff of 65 points. This means that no matter how much someone wins, the most they can be worth is 65 points. Here is the current sheet with the list of what players cost what points. (updated after World Championships)

CLICK ME!

Just like before, send in your teams to wowtcgfantasy@gmail.com. I know some of you chat with me/contact me through my normal email, but it is a whole lot easier if you send it here. Please do that. Each of your players finish will net you a certain amount of points. Because we are capping the point value of your team you will get the full value of your teams finishes. Here is the point breakdown for finishes.

  • 1st —1000 points
  • 2nd — 800 points
  • 3rd –4th —700 points
  • 5th –8th —600 points
  • 9th –16th —300 points
  • 17th –32nd —150 points
  • Make Day 2 – 75 points
  • Attended but did not make day 2 – 25 points

Deadline

You have until Friday 06/11/09 at 0800 CST to get your entry in.

Prizes

We don’t have any prizes for this event, it is merely a test to see how the system works.

However, if something happens and we are able to do some sort of scrubdraft this year at Worlds, then the top 2 from this event will win entry to that tournament.

Thanks again for your help.
